Wait...how is it July already?
If you’re feeling a little off-course, you’re not alone.
The goals we set in January? Sometimes they fade into the background as the day-to-day takes over. Which is why now is the perfect time to pause and ask:
👉 Am I still living by the word I chose in January?
(You know the one - the word that grounded your intentions for the year.)
For me, that word was DETERMINATION.
It’s been a quiet compass - always there, even if not always front and center.
But if I’m honest? It’s easy to drift.
And the same goes for our teams.
Priorities shift. New opportunities show up. Fires need to be put out.
Before you know it, those strategic goals you were excited about are gathering dust.
That’s why the mid-year mark is so powerful. It gives us a chance to reflect, realign, and recommit.
Here are a few grounding questions I use for myself and with the teams I work with:
✨ What did we say mattered most in Q1?
✨ Are we still aligned with that vision?
✨ Where have we made real progress?
✨ Where are we stuck?
This isn’t about scrapping the plan. It’s about making space to see clearly again.
To refocus.
And sometimes? To have the honest conversations we’ve been putting off.
When I lead mid-year check-ins with leadership teams, here’s what we focus on:
🔹 Revisit strategic priorities and see if they still match where we’re headed
🔹 Reflect on the team’s “word of the year” or guiding theme
🔹 Run a retrospective: what’s working, what’s off track, and what’s unclear
🔹 Create space for the hard but necessary conversations
🔹 Leave with aligned, realistic priorities and clear next steps
The tools are simple.
The power is in the conversation.
And those don’t happen on their own.
